When your heart breaks... do you let go of a part of yourself?
A fragment of joy set adrift, within yet without
Like some cherished memento, hidden away in the attic
Waiting to be found again
Or do you hold tightly onto that broken piece?
Twisting and molding it, until you can make it fit again
Never lost, just transformed
These pieces remain a part of you
To find them and to hold them means to reach out and touch them
To prick your skin on their points and feel their sharp edges
To spend time with them, to know their shape
And to regard them without judgment
To allow yourself both grief and compassion
To allow yourself humanity
